Turn Off the Lights (TOtL) is like a lamp for your web browser. Say you’re on YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo, or on some other video-sharing website and you want to enjoy a video without any unnecessary distractions. By clicking TOtL’s lamp button, the background will fade to dark. Turn Off the Lights will do away with all the distractions from the background and will let you enjoy the video you want to watch.

You will have to restart Firefox to complete the installation process. When Firefox restarts, it will display two Welcome tabs on its interface. Both provide useful information about what TOtL can do: one presents some text information about using TOtL, the other takes a more visual approach to presenting the functionality TOtL has to offer.

Speaking about functionality TOtL has to offer, here’s a quick look at its main features: click a button to dim the background; change the opacity level; set it so TOtL will automatically dim the background; enable Atmosphere Lighting from the Visual Effects section of the Options menu; automatically dim the background when its 9PM for example; there’s a handy Night Mode; there’s a handy Speech Recognition function; there are lots of settings to play with.
